In Hertfordshire's south is Borehamwood (/ˌbɔːrəmˈwʊd/-spelt as Boreham Wood formerly). Although the series was supposedly set in Oxford, exterior locations (shops, banks etc.) were filmed in the Borehamwood streets, the TV series' production of Inspector Morse offices were based in the studios. On Elstree Way, Borehamwood, is the newer Millennium Studios.

In Borehamwood lived aviation journalist, editor Aircraft Engineering (1945-1957), illustrator and pilot. Watford F.C. Reserves and Boreham Wood F.C., who at Meadow Park play their games, are in Borehamwood.
